How are lessons structured?Tina's lessons are designed to be relaxed conversations. The main focus of the lesson is to get you talking, as well as listening. These skills are fundamental to using the language effectively. Tina will guide the conversation and offer corrections, as well as answer any questions you may have about English. She may offer homework if desired, and will always give guidance on how each student can improve.

Why conversational style lessons?Here are a few great reasons: 1. Conversation is necessary for language learning. We can learn many things from books and other resources, but if we haven't spoken it, we haven't learned a language properly. It covers 2 of the main skills we use to assess a person's fluency: speaking and listening. 2. Conversation brings together all of our knowledge of a language. In conversation, we are testing our ability to use all the structures of the language, like grammar and vocabulary. 3. Conversation is natural. It's the way we learned to speak our own native languages - by hearing and interacting with those around us. 4. Conversation is fun! It gives us the opportunity to use the language we've been studying in an enjoyable way. It offers us the wonderful gift of meeting and getting to know people from around the world. 5. Conversation lessons with a native teacher allow us to learn something that can't be found in textbooks: a guide to the proper sounds and real-life usage of the language in the modern English-speaking world.

What level of English do I need before taking lessons?Tina's conversational style lessons are best suited for students from A2 (upper beginner) to C2 (advanced).

What kinds of materials will be used?Materials will be provided or recommended according to your particular needs and preferences. We can use short stories, articles, books, grammar exercises, videos, listening materials, and more.

Why am I not yet fluent?Learning a new language take time and commitment. The more you can listen and read in English, the faster you will acquire it. Don't give up! Working harder at lists of vocabulary and grammar books isn't always the most effective - instead. try and find something you can enjoy lisenting to or read in English. Should I try and reduce my accent?Here at ESN, we belive that all accents are natural and beautiful. Accents aren't a problem - but poor pronuncationcan be. Foucus on improving proununcation by listening to as much as you can to clear speech and by practicing your speaking with a teacher who can offer corrections.
